Astana Airlines, the largest Kazakhstan airline company, had been the only one in the world that did not ask for fuel surcharge from the passengers before this April. It then got an average 16% markup in all ticket prices in domestic lines under the great pressure of the price increment of airplane oil.
In 2011, Kazakhstan abolished the national regulation and control of airline oil. Since then, the supply fell short of require in Kazakhstan airline oil market. And Kazakhstan became the country of most expensive airline oil.
The first two months of this year, Astana airlines faced severe deficit, which is up to 110 billion dollars. In order to walk out of the predicament, Astana draw lessons from other states experiences by charging passengers the fuel surcharge, of which, Astana said was a compelling measure. Meanwhile, the CEO of Astana remarked, the price markup could be a turning point for Astana’s development and a safer and more reliable service would be offered to the passengers.
